What settings or shooting habits tend to produce bad results?
A few settings work well for most shoots but can produce confusing results in specific scenarios. Knowing when to toggle them off helps.
Settings to consider toggling off
- Declutter — turn off if you want fixtures preserved. Declutter is opt-in (1 credit per photo when on) and removes items the AI identifies as clutter. It can be too aggressive on shots with statement lamps, chairs, or decor you want to keep. Toggle off in autohdr.com/account → Style Settings.
- Sky Replacement — turn off for scenic aerials. Sky Replacement is on by default and works well for ground-level exteriors, but on aerials over mountains, water, or large landscape features, it can misidentify those as sky and replace them. Toggle off per shoot at upload or globally in autohdr.com/account → Style Settings.
- Perspective Correction — turn off for wide-angle buildings. Straightens vertical lines but can crop or warp the edges of wide-angle exterior shots, sometimes cutting off rooftops. Toggle off in autohdr.com/account → Style Settings if you're shooting wide buildings or want to keep unstraightened verticals.
- Deduplication — turn off if you intentionally shoot similar angles. Removes near-duplicate photos automatically, which is useful for cleaning up bracket sequences but a problem if you've intentionally captured "door open vs. door closed" variations or similar setups. Toggle off in autohdr.com/account so you don't lose those photos.
- Auto Fire and Auto TV Screen Replacement — turn off if you don't want them. Both apply automatically during processing and bake into the output, so removing them after the fact requires re-uploading. Toggle off in autohdr.com/account → Style Settings before uploading if you don't want them on a particular shoot.
Shooting habits to avoid
- Fixed white balance (Cloudy, Tungsten, etc.) can bake in a colour cast. Auto white balance gives the AI the cleanest colour reference.
- Brackets too close together (less than ±2 EV) reduces effective dynamic range and can produce flat or washed-out output. Standard ±2 EV at 3 brackets covers most rooms.
- Movement during the bracket sequence causes ghosting and blur in the output — wind on outdoor furniture, ceiling fans, people walking through, or camera bumps between frames. Tripod use and steady technique prevent this.
